If someone asks me who my favourite authors are, there’s always a fairly similar reply. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis must be on the list, of course, otherwise I’d be too shamed to be called a book dragon. In the past few years though, several more names have gotten onto the list that I don’t think will ever get off either.
Nadine Brandes is right up the top.
Nadine is the sweetest, most amazing author ever. She’s always full of joy and love and has a heart for Christ. I’ve been encouraged by her, in my writing and in my faith, many times even if we’ve never met in person before. I hope that maybe one day our paths will cross and we can do all that squealing and fangirling together that I’ve dreamed about.
I could flail over Nadine and her books for-ev-er. But today I am absolutely freaking-out-level excited to take part in the cover reveal for her next release! *endless screaming and flailing*
When I checked my emails and saw that I was taking part in this reveal I literally shrieked. It wasn’t a very quiet shriek either. 😛
I was grinning so big for the next hour, and then when the next email came out and I saw the cover– *faints from excitement*
Let’s just say that I shrieked again and continued to make high pitched excited sounds for the next five or so minutes as I flailed over the amazing cover.
I’D BEST NOT KEEP YOU WAITING, THOUGH. Without any further fangirl squealing on my part (kidding, I’m squealing the whole time while writing this) HERE. IS. THE. COVER!!!
HELP, I CAN’T STOP SQUEALING.
Look at the title, the colours, the beautiful gold patterns around the words and corners, the mask, the buildings—ack, I absolutely love every single thing about this cover.
When I first saw it, after the initial squeal, I kept staring at it and flailing over everything and saying “Argh it’s so coooool” about every single part.
To be in the danger of repeating myself: IT’S. SO. COOL.
And guyyys, this back cover blurb! I’m still flailing over it, it’s so impossibly epic.
Thomas Fawkes is turning to stone, and the only cure to the Stone Plague is to join his father’s plot to assassinate the king of England.
Silent wars leave the most carnage. The wars that are never declared, but are carried out in dark alleys with masks and hidden knives. Wars where color power alters the natural rhythm of 17th century London. And when the king calls for peace, no one listens until he finally calls for death.
But what if death finds him first?
Keepers think the Igniters caused the plague. Igniters think the Keepers did it. But all Thomas knows is that the Stone Plague infecting his eye is spreading. And if he doesn’t do something soon, he’ll be a lifeless statue. So when his Keeper father, Guy Fawkes, invites him to join the Gunpowder Plot—claiming it will put an end to the plague—Thomas is in.
The plan: use 36 barrels of gunpowder to blow up the Igniter King James.
The problem: Doing so will destroy the family of the girl Thomas loves. But backing out of the plot will send his father and the other plotters to the gallows. To save one, Thomas will lose the other.
No matter Thomas’s choice, one thing is clear: once the decision is made and the color masks have been put on, there’s no turning back.
I read that and my brain just starts coming up with all these guesses and theories of what could happen in the book. What if he turns to stone? Why is the mask on the front cover cracked? Is that snow or stars above the buildings? There’s fire. There’s igniters. There’s gunpowder. What if Thomas Fawkes dies???
After scrutinizing every last pixel of the cover, I can safely announce…that I have no more answers than before. Except that I am incredible excited and can’t wait to hold this gorgeous, beautiful, amazing book in my hands.
It’s going to be HARDCOVER. Can you believe it?? *all the bookworms throw confetti* A wonderful Nadine book in hardback. I’m not sure it can get much better than that.
We also have a release date!! Mid next year the postal services should be carting around hundreds of copies of Fawkes. I know my mailbox will be quite probably be receiving at least three. Me and my sisters are all book hoarders. We couldn’t possibly not all have our own copy. 😉
What date? When can you expect this book to be appearing in stores and shelves?
July 10th, 2018
Oh. My. Word. I am so, so excited for this book. The back cover blurb is stunning. The cover is pure epicness. It’s getting released just before my birthday next year.
But we don’t have to wait that long. One of the most exciting things of all: WE CAN PREORDER HER BOOK NOW.
Repeat: YES, I SAID PREORDER, MY FRIENDS.
It won’t come until the release date but you can still slam that ‘preorder now’ button and spend the next seven months staring at your mail box, waiting for it to arrive.
AHHHHH. I’M NOT EVEN DONE YET. Nadine is hosting an ARC GIVEAWAY. This is insane…like, insane. I don’t know when I’ll be able to stop screaming. xD You can enter using the rafflecopter form below! And never fear, it is international, so all may have a chance!!
(If you’re reading this in the email, I’m not sure whether the giveaway will actually show up, so you might have to hop over to the actual post. 😉 )
Run and get your entries in, my friends!
I’ve probably about deafened all of you will all my shrieking (sorry 😛 ), but before you leave make sure you’ve ducked over to Nadine’s website and read her official announcement because it’s about fifty-fifty as to whether I actually remembered to include all the important things in this post. And even if I did remember you might have forgotten them all by now so GO READ. 😛
Have you read any of Nadine’s books? (if not 100000% recommended from me) Are you excited for the release of Fawkes?? (I am…if you hadn’t already noticed. XD) Who else is flailing over that amazing cover? Shriek with me in the comments!
