Becoming a Writer 101

by | 25 October 2019 | Life, Writing | 7 comments

Disclaimer: this is a humourous post meant to amuse, not to instruct. You have been warned. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Since last week’s post turned out to be actually helpful, and overall I’ve been a decently useful person lately…I’m way past due for another 101 post.

This one is for all my writer friends and any other writers out there. Also for anyone who wants to join the adventure of being a writer! This list will give you the instruction you need. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Have either 9,056 story ideas or 0

You can’t be writer unless you’re either…

a) swamped in story ideas and can’t decide which one to write

or b) have no good ideas at all

There’s no escaping it. This is the fate of the writer.

Collect notebooks and/or mugs

Having thirty+ gorgeous (but untouched) notebooks at once is a MUST for any writer. They’re just so pretty! You need them in your life!

Don’t write in them though, that’s sacrilege.

Mugs, on the other hand, are incredibly useful. You should collect every mug you meet and use it every day.

Chug that tea/coffee/whatever your favourite drink is with no regrets!

Daydream about your characters

If you truly love your fictional children, you must make pinterest boards with over 100 pins for each character, spend several hours finding the perfect face for them, spend even longer trying to name them, and give them a backstory even longer again than that.

Ultimate Bonus Points if you compose a theme song for them.

Stare at a blank document and scream internally

There’s not much to this point really, it’s mostly self explanatory!

Just try it out, it should come naturally to any writer. (Send help. ๐Ÿ˜…)

What’s something else you think is a must for writers? Come share your humourous woes in the comments! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Jane Maree

Jane Maree

Jane Maree is an Adventurerโ€”exploring the endless wonders of Godโ€™s beautiful creation. She started writing by accident, but since the very beginning has loved the enchantment of words on paper. If you say anything about pizza, superheroes, books, or any of her many, many fandoms, sheโ€™ll come at the double. Aside from crafting worlds using only twenty-six letters, she is a passionate Jesus-lover, freelance editor, self-trained martial artist, songwriter, and musician. In her spare time, she's often off on random adventures in the name of story research. She seeks to inspire her readers to step out and become the heroes of hope this world needs.

I…might also be guilty of everything on this list as well. ๐Ÿ˜…

Typo puns are always the best ones. ๐Ÿ˜‚

I’ve got the screaming internally DOWN. Such a successful writer over here *raises hand* ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ And I’m pretty sure to be a real writer, you also have to feel like writing when you don’t have time, but when you DO have time…no inspiration.๐Ÿ˜Œ
