The Nebulous Saga AUDIO DRAMA

by | 4 November 2022 | Books, Writing

If you’re a newsletter subscriber or follow me anywhere on social media, you’ll have heard the epic news already, but I’m here to scream it to the rooftops all over again in case anyone missed it!

My scifi-fantasy pirates in space series, THE NEBULOUS SAGA, is coming out as A FULLY-CASTED AUDIO DRAMA SERIES!

I’m not screaming, you’re screaming!! EEP!

First of all… What is an audio drama?

An audio drama is like an audiobook… but more epic and more involved. Each of the characters in The Nebulous Saga has an AMAZING voice actor speaking all their lines, as well as a narrator reading the descriptions in between.

There’s also a lot of sound design (e.g. instead of the narrator saying “I heard footsteps” you would hear the actual sound of footsteps.). AND the incredible Michael Bahnmiller has composed a cinematic-style “theme”, and Will Fox is producing a large portion of the rest of the underscore to compliment. Me = 😱😱😍

How did this come to be?

He might say I’m again giving him too much credit, but it’s honestly all thanks to Magnus Carlssen. The man, the myth, the legend. Near the end of last year, as the final few stories of The Nebulous Saga were releasing on gohavok.com, Magnus approached me saying how much he loved the stories and how much he wanted to see them in a visual form. I obviously loved the idea but in December we both decided we should wait until at least mid-2022 before seriously pursuing this idea.

No more than a couple weeks later, Magnus returned saying he couldn’t stop thinking about it and bam. Before we knew it, we were making this idea a reality right now.

It took us a while to nail down what we were going to do, and there’s (hopefully) still more to come. I have to shout-out again to the epic cast and crew that have brought this so far from the outlandish dreams of two crazy creatives.

How can I listen?

We’ve partnered with another fantastic science fiction audio drama, The Madness of Chartrulean, to launch The Nebulous Saga as an episodic subscribers-only release, which started with episode 1 on the 26th of October.

All you have to do is subscribe to The Madness of Chartulean on Apple Podcasts for only $4.99 USD ($7.99 AUD) per month (a subscription you can cancel at any time!) OR purchase a Season Pass ($25 USD) straight from chartrulean.com. All subscribers get exclusive access The Nebulous Saga episodes as they release weekly!

If you have absolutely zero money in your pockets and you have immense patience… The Nebulous Saga will be launching independently in the new year, so hold tight for January (?) 2023!

However, monetary support obviously supports more seasons! And more food on our plates! It might even help me bargain back my firstborn child which it’s rumoured that I sold to Michael Bahnmiller in exchange for his epic soundtrack theme! (I will neither confirm nor deny the validity of this rumour 😇) 😂

There’s so much talent going into this show, I’m in awe! Here’s the cast list:

Rhys Lawton as Captain Dolion
Shogo Miyakita as Cookie
Michael Malconian as Jesse Kieffer
Tali De Assis as Kalopsia
Magnus Carlssen as the Narrator
Reginald West as The Ancient

Aaand the epic crew!

Madison Brown – Character Artist
Sarah Allinson – Landscape Artist
Kirk DouPonce – Title/Logo Artist
Magnus Carlssen – Director/Producer
Jane Maree (that’s me!!!) – Director/Writer
Shogo Miyakita – Assistant Producer/Casting
Michael Bahnmiller – Composer, Original Score
Will Fox – Composer, Original Score
Hannah Radcliff – Sound Design

I am SO, SO grateful to every single person involved in this project!! This has been in the works since December/January and the story has been in my head since May the year before, and it’s honestly so surreal to see this all coming together so amazingly like this. THANK YOU to my amazing readers and listeners and I can’t wait to share the rest of this fantastic audio drama with you all!!
